Name:
Krista McCorkle
What You Wish You Had Been Named?
Krista McCorkle
Occupation?
The 3 E's at Best Cellars: Events, Education, & Oenology.
Relation To Best Cellars?
So related, I'm no longer "adopted". Been at BC since 8/97. Even my parents feel like part of the BC family; Bill & Nancy McCorkle, retired public school teachers, bought the first bottle of wine sold at Brookline, U-Village and the Kirkland stores, travelling to each opening in their Bounder (a mansion on wheels).
My career at Best Cellars began on the sales floor of the New York store, and over the past 3 years has moved from opening stores on the West Coast, to hosting BCU wine courses and to most recently landing in the Corporate offices in trendy SoHo.
What "Taste" Are You?
Luscious.
What's Your Favorite Food?
Cheese - unpasteurized and stinky!
What's Your Dream Car?
Car or motorcyle-I would go Italian. A 1960's Alfa Romeo, the kind you'd see in a Fellini movie⦠in British racing green or bright red would be nice.
What Famous Person Would You Most Like To Go On A Date With?
The chef from Danube, David Bouley. He rides fancy Italian motorcycles too!
What Are Your Hobbies?
Cooking - everything!
What's Your Favorite CD?
My favorite classic is Elvis Costello's, "My Aim is True". Right now it's a toss up between "Buena Vista Social Club" and anything by Marc Anthony.
What's Your Favorite Restaurant?
Café Juanita in Seattle absolutely impressed the socks off me, but in NY I'd say Gramercy Tavern, or Veritas because the sommelier there is so cool.
What's Your Sign?
Scorpio.
What Book Would You Recommend As A Great Read?
Most recently, I enjoyed My Antonia by Willa Cather. I love short stories by Italo Calvino, and anything by Raymond Carver.
What's Your Favorite Magazine?
Saveur, Wines & Spirits, TimeOut NY, and Entertainment Weekly.
What's Your Favorite TV Show?
Sex and the City, Frasier (still very clever), and Iron Chef.
What's Your Favorite Wine?
Too hard, but the one that moved me most was a Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru by Domaine leFlaive 1988. I enjoyed this bottle at a great New York restaurant where the food is delicious. This bottle of wine was so good, it was as if we forgot about the food in front of us. We barely even spoke until the last drop was savored. It was sensory ecstasy, in public!
What Would Be Your Idea Of The Perfect Vacation?
A month spent in an ancient stone house, situated deep in Provence, close to the sea-side town of Cassis, together with my true love!
What's Your Favorite Pick-Up Line?
"I can buy wine at wholesale."
What's Something You Wish You Could Do, But Never Would?
Run the marathon.
What's Your Favorite Pizza Topping?
White truffle oil. We have it here at Best Cellars Corporate every Friday for lunch!
What's Your Favorite Ice Cream Flavor?
Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey if I'm feeling playful, or Sharon's Vanilla Crème Brulée, if I want pure flavor.
What Food Repulses You Most?
Frog's legs because frogs eat flies, and escargot because it's not chic to eat foods with the texture of erasers and there are so many other ways to eat garlic and butter.
Who Would You Be If You Could Be Anyone?
Hard to say. I've never been anyone else. (Though I wouldn't mind having a body like Elizabeth Hurley-not that I don't already, but I'm not nearly as tall.)
What's Your Favorite Season?
Fall.
What's Your Favorite Color?
I love Black and Red.
What's Your Favorite Animal?
Anything that's cute, friendly, non-biting, non-scratching and cuddly.
What Day Of The Week Do You Like Most?
Sundays-lazy days, full of cooking and cocktails at sundown.
Which Athlete Do You Admire Most?
The ordinary person who has trained themselves to run a marathon or conquer a mountain on their own. Self-determination impresses me.
What's Your Lucky Number?
Have no idea. I'm not very superstitious.
Do You Prefer Gold Or Silver?
Whichever is holding the biggest rock.
What's Your Idea Of The Perfect Time To Drink Wine?
Professionally? Just after breakfast. Socially? Any time.
Married Or Single?
Single, but not looking. |
